About emodji.com
Last updated: February 6, 2026
Hi there! I'm ACiDek, a developer from Czech Republic, and this is my project. What started as a frustrated side project in late 2024 has turned into something I genuinely care about. Here's the story.
๐ ๏ธ Why I Built This
I got annoyed. That's the honest answer. Every time I needed to look up an emoji or find out what some obscure symbol meant, I'd land on one of two types of sites: either ad-infested garbage where the actual content was buried under three layers of pop-ups, or bare-bones Unicode tables that felt like reading a technical spec for fun.
Neither had any personality. Neither felt like it was made by someone who actuallyliked emojis. So I thought, fine, I'll build the thing I want to use. A place where you can look up what ๐ซ means, play a dumb game when you're bored, or turn your cat into an emoji mosaic โ all without getting assaulted by ads or cookie banners.
The first tool I created was the Image to Emoji converter. I remember staying up late tweaking the color-matching algorithm, testing it on random photos, and being weirdly delighted when a picture of my cat turned into a recognizable emoji mosaic. That feeling of "this actually works" is what kept me going.
๐ค Who Makes This?
Just me. emodji.com is a one-person operation โ I handle the development, design, content, and the occasional 2 AM bug fix when something breaks. Things move at their own pace, but every feature gets my full attention.
Being based in Czech Republic means I bring a slightly different perspective to digital communication. Emojis bridge language barriers in ways that fascinate me, and I try to keep that global mindset when building features.
๐ How We Create Content
I take the content seriously. Here's how it works:
- Every emoji description is hand-written. All 1,800+ entries in the Emoji Wiki have been individually reviewed. I look at how people actually use each emoji, not just what Unicode says it's supposed to mean. The ๐ entry doesn't just say "upside-down face" โ it explains the passive-aggressive energy.
- Articles are researched from primary sources. When I write about emoji history or statistics, I go to the Unicode Consortium directly, read Emojipedia's blog, and dig through academic papers when relevant. I cite sources so you can verify claims yourself.
- No sponsored content. Ever. Nobody pays me to recommend anything. What you read is my actual opinion.
- Updated when things change. Emoji standards evolve yearly. When Unicode pushes a new version or platforms change their designs, I update the relevant pages. You'll see "Last updated" dates on key content.
๐ฎ What We Offer
Over time, emodji.com has grown into a collection of tools and resources:
- Image to Emoji โ Transform any image into a colorful emoji mosaic. Still my personal favorite.
- Emoji Wiki โ 1,800+ emoji with meanings, usage examples, and cultural context.
- Articles & Guides โ 45+ articles on emoji psychology, cultural differences, platform comparisons, and practical how-tos.
- Curated Collections โ Themed emoji sets for holidays, remote work, and specific vibes.
- Games โ 15 games from Bubble Shooter to Phoenix to Emoji Quiz. Because sometimes you just want to play.
- Tools โ 20+ utilities including Emoji Combinator, Compatibility Checker, Unicode Lookup, and more.
๐ง Behind the Scenes
Honestly, running emodji.com involves more trial and error than I'd like to admit. Some features I was excited about flopped (there was a failed emoji keyboard project in early 2024). Others surprised me โ the Sudoku game gets way more traffic than I ever expected.
I ship improvements every few weeks. Check the What's New page to see what's been happening recently.
๐ก Why Emojis?
I think emojis represent something interesting about how humans communicate. We've essentially created a global pictographic language in under two decades. A thumbs up means the same thing in Tokyo and Toronto. A laughing face transcends grammar.
That said, emojis are also weird and inconsistent and sometimes confusing โ which is part of their charm. Building tools around them means embracing that chaos while trying to make it slightly more navigable.
๐ฏ Our Mission
emodji.com exists to be the most helpful emoji resource on the web. Not the biggest, not the flashiest โ just genuinely useful. Copy an emoji, look up what a symbol means in different cultures, or kill time with a puzzle game. I want this to be the site you come back to.
Everything is free, no account required. I also care about privacy โ we collect minimal data and never sell your information. You can read more in our Privacy Policy.
๐ฌ Contact
Questions, suggestions, bug reports, or just want to say hi? Visit the Contact page. I read everything that comes through, even if I can't always reply immediately.
Thanks for stopping by. Hope you find something useful here. ๐
